Sydney, 13 June 2025 – In a major development for Australia’s innovation and research sector, ExpertGate has announced the appointment of leading economist Mr. Saul Eslake as Strategic Advisor – Economic Development & Global Research Collaboration.
Mr. Eslake, widely regarded as one of Australia’s most respected and influential economic thinkers, brings over four decades of experience across government, banking, academia, and international consultancy. His appointment marks a strategic move by ExpertGate to deepen its role as a global research platform linking academic institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers around shared development goals.
ExpertGate, an Australian-founded initiative, has quickly emerged as a hub for international research partnerships and expert-led innovation. Its mission to remove barriers between academia and the real world has found strong resonance at a time when global cooperation, sustainable development, and evidence-based policy are more important than ever.
Mr. Eslake’s distinguished career has included senior roles at the Australian Treasury, ANZ Bank, Grattan Institute, and his own independent economic advisory firm, through which he has worked with clients across the Asia-Pacific and Europe. He is known for his deep, data-driven approach to public policy and his clear communication on complex economic issues.
In his role with ExpertGate, Mr. Eslake will contribute strategic insight to help shape the platform’s global research ecosystem. His work will focus on fostering partnerships that translate research into actionable outcomes—particularly in the areas of economic resilience, innovation policy, and regional development.
Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Eslake said he was eager to contribute to a platform that placed such strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and impact-driven research.
“ExpertGate is creating an environment where experts from all over the world can connect, contribute, and co-create solutions. I look forward to supporting initiatives that bring together research and policy in a way that generates real economic and social value,” he said.
Dr Mohammad Riyadh, Director of Global Research Partnerships at ExpertGate, said the appointment was both timely and significant.
“Mr. Eslake’s experience and leadership in economic development will help us take our platform to the next level. His insights will be critical as we expand our research partnerships and help guide evidence-based innovation that benefits communities worldwide,” Dr Riyadh said.
The appointment comes on the heels of ExpertGate’s recognition as a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)-eligible organisation and its announcement of 20 new international research teams aligned with Australia’s 2026 National Science and Research Priorities.
As ExpertGate continues to grow its global footprint, Mr. Eslake’s expertise will serve as a cornerstone in ensuring that research collaborations deliver not only academic excellence—but also tangible economic impact.
